This week, Mayor Bowser unveiled Grow DC, her Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) Budget. By making smart, targeted investments, DC is focused on replacing federal jobs and retaining our world-class talent, expanding housing opportunities for DC residents, and making DC more resilient and competitive.
FY26 Emerging Retail Initiative
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (“DMPED”) invites the submission of applications from qualified organizations for the FY26 DC Emerging Retail Initiative (“ERI” or “Emerging Retail”). The purpose of ERI is to boost economic activity and provide essential goods and services in underserved commercial areas. Inspired by Vacant to Vibrant, ERI adopts a temporary-use model that bridges the gap between shared/incubator spaces and permanent brick-and-mortar establishments.

DC Startup Week Kicks Off Next Week

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Monday, September 12, DC Startup Week will kick off, the District's largest conference for entrepreneurs and startups. From September 12th through the 16th, DC Startup Week will host more than 100 events, including keynote talks by experts, pitch competitions, and a variety of networking events. In honor of The District's 30,000 plus small businesses, the Bowser Administration encourages new and established owners to attend this event.
Small Medium Business Growth Fund
The Small Medium Business Growth Fund will offer approximately $2 million dollars in total grants aimed to retain, grow and propel innovation in district-based small businesses by supporting large scale capital improvements, critical equipment purchasing, and technological advancements within industries related to green innovation, experiential retail, incubators, immersive entertainment and professional services.
